to get Feeds working:

install and enable modules

set up new content type for the imported data

add Feed importer:

  Basic settings: use standalone form, periodic: off (import on submission)

  Fetcher: file upload

  Parser: CSV

  Processor: node processor, mapping source fields to target fields

save Excel source file (with top row as header with field names) as 97-2003 Excel then as CSV then in Notepad++ encode as UTF-8

NB ensure title is one of the mapped fields

     turn off comments and promoted to front page on the content type
